El periódico británico el Daily Mail hizo una ácida crítica al Presidente Sebastián Piñera quien quebró el protocolo durante su visita a Washington al ocupar el escritorio presidencial de la Casa Blanca.
“¿Quién te has creído que eres?”, se preguntó el diario del Reino Unido, relatando así lo ocurrido: “Fue su primera visita oficial a la Casa Blanca y el presidente chileno Sebastián Piñera logró de inmediato provocar un revuelo, por las razones equivocadas. En un vergonzoso desliz, el martes de la semana pasada el multimillonario de 63 años se sentó en el escritorio Resolute (del despacho oval), rompiendo las políticas de protocolo”.
“Voy a sentarme en el escritorio del Presidente de los Estados Unidos, afirmó Piñera frente a un visiblemente sorprendido Obama”, agrega el matutino.
“Y para hacer peor las cosas, dijo, el empresario convertido en político justificó sus acciones diciendo ‘Es que, ¿saben? Mi hija nació en Estados Unidos’”.
“En medio de la risa de sorpresa, alguien en la habitación le preguntó a Obama cuántos otros presidentes se habían atrevido a sentarse en su puesto. El mandatario norteamericano respondió: ‘Él es el único’”, narra el periódico.
Este hecho fue sin duda uno de los temas más comentados de la visita del presidente Piñera a la Casa Blanca. Según periodistas presentes en el encuentro, Piñera dio este paso como una forma de “empatar” lo ocurrido durante la visita del presidente estadounidense Barack Obama a La Moneda el año pasado.
En esa oportunidad, Obama recibió un llamado telefónico urgente desde Washington, por lo que Piñera le ofreció usar su despacho para mayor privacidad. Al ingresar a su oficina posteriormente, el mandatario chileno le encontró instalado en su pupitre.

And to make matters worse, the businessman-turned-politician justified his actions by saying: 'You know my daughter was born in the United States.'
Huffington Post reports Piñera appeared to sit down spontaneously, without consulting Obama’s advisers or security personnel.
Obama welcomed his Chilean counterpart to the White House on Tuesday, praising the South American country’s growing economy and democratic advancement.
